Short-Term Effects of Film Piracy

 

Film piracy is a serious problem that can have many severe short-term effects. These effects are caused by the fact that sales are being depleted and the creative content is not generating the revenue it deserves. Even some of the most well produced movies in the world are not receiving enough to make up for the initial project investment now because of movie pirating.

The main short-term effect that occurs when a movie is pirated is the loss of revenue from that individual. Most people that pirate films would have rented, bought, or paid to see the movies in some way if film pirating was not so readily available.

The amount of money lost because of film piracy is pretty significant as well. Just last year, the top pirated movie Star Wars, lost hundreds of millions of dollars in potential revenue from it being pirated. There is no way to easily calculate the amount of money lost in the film industry but it is easily many billions of dollars.

When looking at the short-term effects of film piracy you can see on major problem. By movies being pirated so much, even when they are in cinemas, it limits the possible earnings for the films. This means that it will be much more difficult for filmmakers to break even or make a profit on their project.

The financial deficits in the short-term that are caused by film piracy can lead to long-term effects as well. One example of a long-term effect would be numerous individuals leaving the movie business. This would be because of the fact that film piracy would be preventing some people from getting ahead in the film industry. If you want the film industry to progress then you will have to take steps to avoid film piracy.

While jobs such as acting and filmmaking are more recognized, there are other jobs that can be affected by film piracy as well. In fact, there have been many job cuts because of the epidemic situation that was caused by films being pirated.

Any employment position that is involved in the process of making and selling movies can be affected by film piracy. Many local movie rental stores have also experienced such major effects from movie pirating that they have had to shut down their business.

There is less money being put into movies because investors are worried that they will not get returns. There are many people quitting the business as well because they cannot even manage to cover their investment costs for their creative content. As you can see, there are many problems that have surfaced as a result of movie pirating.

It has only been the last five years or so that movie pirating has been a severe issue. The short-term effects have already been noticed in the film industry. If people do not make a stand against pirating movies today then it could lead to serious long-term effects. With that being said, it is important to know that film piracy is not a victimless crime and it can have serious effects on people's livelihoods and the film industry as a whole.
